BROOKLAND, AR — (BrooklandNews.com) — Jan. 31, 2026 — Construction on Brookland’s new police station is moving into its final phase, with city officials expecting the building to be finished sometime in March if weather conditions allow, according to City Engineer Mike Bishop.
Bishop said crews are nearly finished with exterior work. “They are 98% complete on the outside of the building,” he said.
The new station is located on W. School Street near Whitten Creek Apartments.
Remaining exterior tasks include drainage connections and small additions still being installed. Bishop said workers are “connecting the downspouts to the underground drains” and adding a “small canopy on the south outside door.”
Inside the building, Bishop said much of the wall work is already complete. “All drywall is hung, finished, primed, and first coat of paint on it,” he said.
He added the building has been powered on so crews can light the interior while finishing the paint work. “They power on to light up the building to put finish coat on,” Bishop said.
Electrical work has progressed throughout the facility. Bishop said “all receptacles and switches are wired and installed,” while electricians are now working on the next stage of the system.
“The electricians are in the process of running the homeruns into the electrical panel,” Bishop said. He also said the emergency backup system is close to ready, noting, “The transfer switch is wired complete for the emergency generator.”
Some electrical work still remains before the station can be fully operational. “The primary electrical wiring still needs to be installed by Craighead Electric,” Bishop said, adding the main panel still must be completed as well.
Heating and air work is also nearing completion. Bishop said “all HVAC registers are installed in the ceiling grid,” but ceiling panels are not in place yet because other interior work must be finished first.
Restrooms in the building are already complete, including accessibility upgrades. “All the restrooms are completed with the tile walls and floors,” Bishop said. “All commodes and sinks, the ADA handrails installed.”
Utility work is still underway at the site. Bishop said “the main natural gas main has been run to the site,” but crews still need to run service to the back of the building and install “the regulators and meter.”
Outside improvements are also taking shape. Bishop said the parking lot area has “all the curb and gutter complete” and the lot has been “paved and stripped.”
Signage is also being finalized. Bishop said the sign on the building is complete and working, and crews are continuing work on the sign next to the street.
Once remaining interior work is finished, Bishop said contractors will install flooring in the rest of the building. “Once everything is complete on the inside of the building they will lay the flooring for rest of the building,” he said.
Bishop said some key systems still need to be completed before the building is ready for use. “They still have the communication and security wiring to run,” he said.
The project timeline remains dependent on the weather. “The building will be completed sometime in March depending on the weather,” Bishop said.
