WASHINGTON — (BrooklandNews.com) — July 8, 2025 — President Donald Trump on Tuesday reaffirmed that a new round of tariffs on 14 countries will go into effect Aug. 1, stating there “has been no change to this date, and there will be no change.”
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said, “Letters sent to various countries yesterday, in addition to letters that will be sent today, tomorrow, and for the next short period of time, TARIFFS WILL START BEING PAID ON AUGUST 1.” He indicated this would be the final deadline for enforcement, with no extensions expected. “All money will be due and payable starting AUGUST 1, 2025 — No extensions will be granted,” he wrote.
The tariff rollout began with an initial deadline of April 9, when Trump’s so-called “reciprocal tariffs” were first announced. A 90-day pause expired July 9, and a broader round of enforcement is set for Aug. 1. A separate exemption for China expires Aug. 12, raising the likelihood of heightened tensions between Washington and Beijing.
Although Trump signaled firmness in Tuesday’s post, he had appeared more flexible a day earlier. “If they call up and they say, ‘We’d like to do something a different way,’ we’re going to be open to that,” he said Monday.
Countries facing the new duties include Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, and Tunisia, each subject to a 25% tariff. South Africa and Bosnia and Herzegovina will face 30% tariffs; Indonesia 32%; Bangladesh and Serbia 35%; Cambodia and Thailand 36%; and Myanmar and Laos 40%. The White House says the tariffs are designed to level the playing field with nations that benefit from what Trump calls one-sided trade agreements.
President Donald Trump said in a Tuesday cabinet meeting that he will impose an additional 10% tariff on imports from BRICS nations — Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa — plus any other countries “aligning themselves with the anti‑American policies of BRICS.”
