Jonesboro, AR — A terminated Jonesboro Police Department officer turned himself in to the Craighead County Detention Center early Tuesday.

Joseph Tucker Harris, 29, was charged with aggravated assault, filing a false police report and 3rd degree battery. After turning himself in at 9 a.m., at 9:40 a.m. Harris bailed out on a $15,000 cash or surety bond.

Harris was terminated from the Jonesboro Police Department after a complaint “necessitated prompt action.”

The complaint was filed after an assisting Craighead County Deputy alleged Harris beat a detainee in the back of his patrol vehicle.

Video was released by JPD that showed the entire incident.

The Little Rock FBI bureau investigated the incident, but have yet to publicly comment. The Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training (LEST) has voted in September to consider if Harris should still be certified as a police officer.

Harris will have a probable cause hearing Jan. 21 at 1 p.m. at the Jonesboro District Court.

BN will continue to monitor this case.
