Washington — Donald J. Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States early Monday.

In an Inaugural speech attended by hundreds including, tech ceos, congressmen and cabinet members President Trump delivered remarks in the Capitol Rotunda and gave the first looks into the new administration.

“From this day forward, our country will flourish and be respected again all over the world,” Trump declared, adding that America would become the “envy of every nation.” He continued, “We will not allow ourselves to be taken advantage of any longer.”

Donald Trump also spoke about a number of crises, the crisis of trust, southern border, crime and inflation.

  • Gov’t Trust: “As we gather today, our government confronts a crisis of trust. For many years, a radical and corrupt establishment has extracted power and wealth from our citizens, while the pillars of our society lay broken and, seemingly, in complete disrepair.”
  • Southern Border: “First, I will declare a national emergency at our southern border. All illegal entry will immediately be halted and we will begin the process of returning millions and millions of criminal aliens back to the places from which they came,” Trump said. “We will reinstate my ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy. I will end the practice of catch and release and I will send troops to the southern border to repel the disastrous invasion of our country.”
  • Crime: “We have a government that has failed to protect our magnificent, law-abiding American citizens, but provides sanctuary and protection for dangerous criminals, many from prisons and mental institutions that have illegally entered our country from all over the world,” Trump declared. “Under the orders I signed today, we will also be designating the cartels as foreign terrorist organizations. And by invoking the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, I will direct our government to use the full and immense power of federal and state law enforcement to eliminate the presence of all foreign gangs and criminal networks bringing devastating crime to U.S. soil, including our cities and inner cities.”
  • Inflation: “Next, I will direct all members of my Cabinet to marshal the vast powers at their disposal to defeat what was record inflation and rapidly bring down costs and prices,” Trump went on. “The inflation crisis was caused by massive overspending and escalating energy prices, and that is why today I will also declare a national energy emergency.”

Soon after President Trump delivered his inauguration speech, he participated in a ceremony with military troops before departing to Capital One Arena for the presidential parade. The parade was moved indoors similar to the inauguration due to freezing temperatures.

The parade featured Butler County, PA, First Responders and a moment of silence for Corey Comperatore, the man who was shot and killed during the shooting at Trump’s Butler Township, PA rally.

The parade also featured a number of bands including high schools and colleges. Trump delivered a speech while recognizing the hostages in the Israel-Hamas war, with the families of them standing behind him. After the speech he signed the first–of a number– of executive orders.

He then visited the White House, where Trump signed a number of executive orders and pardons. He pardoned more than 1,500 January 6, 2021 defendants freeing a number of those facing charges related to the attack on the Capitol in 2021.

Those executive orders signed included actions on the federal hiring process, DEI programs, declaring an emergency at the Southern Border and on gender. These actions show a stark difference when compared to his first administration where he only signed one executive order on his first day, that wasn’t published until four days later.

Before President Trump ends the day he will attend three separate balls, and is expected to speak at each.

Joe Biden’s Exit

Before Joe Biden left office him, Jill Biden, Kamala Harris, Doug Emhoff, Donald Trump and Melania Trump dined together in the White House, served with coffee and tea.

Former President Biden and Former Vice Pres. Harris attended Trump’s inauguration, unlike Trump in 2020, before both leaving office.

Biden delivered remarks from Joint Base Andrews attempting to leave supporters hopeful for the future: “You’re smart, you’re skilled, you’re passionate, the country needs you again. So, all of you can stay engaged in all the ways you can, whether it’s in public service or the private sector or philanthropy, academia or running for office yourself or anything else you choose to do.”

Before his exit, Biden issued a list of preemptive pardons citing “baseless and politically motivated investigations.” Those pardons included brother James Biden and his wife, Sara; sister Valerie and her husband, John Owens; brother Francis; Dr. Anthony Fauci; retired Gen. Mark Milley; and Jan. 6 Committee members and staff.

Trump claimed throughout the day that the pardons came as a surprise to his staff because it was released while Donald Trump was speaking.
