WASHINGTON — (BrooklandNews.com) — Nov. 5, 2025 — The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced Wednesday its plans to cut air capacity by 10%

The move by the FAA comes in response to the ongoing government shutdown — now the longest ever — and will go into effect on Friday.

“Our sole role is to make sure that we keep this airspace as safe as possible. Reduction in capacity at 40 of our locations. This is not based on light airline travel locations. This is about where the pressure is and how to really deviate the pressure,” FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford said in a press conference.

The government shutdown has forced air traffic controllers across the nation to work without pay, leading to call-ins, causing shortages and delays.

Airports affected include Memphis International Airport.
