WASHINGTON — (BrooklandNews.com) — May 22, 2025 — A Thursday order from a Boston judge put an injunction on the executive order by Trump calling for the dismantling of the federal Department of Education.
On Thursday, U.S. District Judge Myong Joun in Boston issued the injunction, putting a stop to mass layoffs at the Department of Education.
Youn, appointed under the Biden administration, also said, “The record abundantly reveals that defendants’ true intention is to effectively dismantle the department without an authorizing statute.”
In early May, Jackson Mitchell sat down with Brookland Public Schools’ Superintendent Brett Bunch, who said, “Honestly, it comes down to the state you live in. Each state has different laws… Brookland only gets about $700,000 a year right now in federal funds… If he actually does get rid of the governmental part of the Department of Education, then our challenge becomes that it’s going to be decided on by our state — and at times, that could be a challenge.”
Trump has called for the department to be slowly dismantled to remove the “waste, fraud and abuse” in the federal government.
