Austin, TX– President Biden proposed reformation of the Supreme Court of the United States on Monday.

During a speech in Austin, Texas on Monday President Biden endorsed a proposed amendment that would:

  • No Immunity for Presidential Crimes: President Biden advocates for a constitutional amendment to ensure that no President is immune from federal criminal prosecution for actions taken while in office. The proposed “No One Is Above the Law Amendment” would explicitly state that the Constitution does not grant any immunity from criminal indictment, trial, conviction, or sentencing due to past service as President.
  • Term Limits for Supreme Court Justices: President Biden proposes implementing term limits for Supreme Court Justices, similar to the term limits established for the Presidency over 75 years ago. He suggests a system where a Justice serves for eighteen years, with a new appointment every two years. This change aims to ensure regular turnover, make nomination timing more predictable, and prevent any single administration from exerting long-term influence on the Court.
  • Binding Code of Conduct for the Supreme Court: President Biden supports enacting enforceable ethical rules for Supreme Court Justices, including requirements to disclose gifts, avoid public political activities, and recuse themselves from cases involving personal or familial conflicts of interest. He believes Justices should adhere to the same code of conduct as other federal judges.

Everything in the proposed amendment has com into light in recent years – immunity for those who were involved on the attack on the capitol on Jan. 6, 2021 and immunity for presidents’. Another big topic – the fact that justices of the court can serve until death once appointed. Lastly, a code of conduct for the Supreme Court Justice’s as many justices have allegedly committed acts that some say are wrong, and show biases.

The amendment needs congress approval, but with a republican led House of Representatives – that doesn’t appear likely. Already, before Pres. Biden announcement the amendment, the Speaker of the house of Reps., Mike Johnson said that it would be, “Dead on arrival.”

While Biden has remained positive saying, “We’re going to figure a way.”

When it comes to the Senate, it has a possibility of passing a democrats hold the majority . But without both, the proposed amendment would not be added to the Constitution of the United States.

The Monday announcement comes more than three years after Biden created a commission to study structural changes at the Supreme Court, including term limits and proposals to increase the number of justices. The commission had turned in there report in late 2021, to the White House.

Biden’s announcement came during a speech commemorating the Civil Rights Act.
