USA– Tons of misinformation is being spread over the “TikTok Ban,” something to note is that the app is actually not being banned, yet…

The bill named Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act that has now passed the U. S. House of Representatives by a 352-65 vote would force the company ByteDance, which owns the TikTok application to sell the company to one not owned by a foreign adversary, in six months.

Lawmakers claim that ByteDance is beholden by the Chinese Communist Party and could ask and receive information of the American consumers on the application.

The bill which has now passed the house will head to the U. S. Senate, and at this point, it is unclear if the bill has bipartisan yes votes.

Then, the bill would go to President Biden’s desk when he has already stated he would sign the bill.

Once signed by the president the law would be in effect, and then ByteDance would have six months to sell the company.

If they did not sell, that’s when a ban could come to light. We’ll wait until then to see what occurs.

The bill had lot of bipartisan support in the house, but will it have it in the senate.

Trump, the former president and current front runner in the Republican Party for president has not directly opposed the bill, instead he’s been skeptical of the bill.

“You have that problem with Facebook and lots of other companies too. Trump said “There are a lot of people on TikTok that love it, and continued to say, “there’s, you know, a lot of good, and there’s a lot of bad with TikTok.”

Here’s what the sponser of the bill, Republican Rep. Mike Gallagher had to say:

“It’s not a ban,” he continued, “It puts the choice squarely in the hands of TikTok to sever their relationship with the Chinese Communist Party. As long as ByteDance no longer owns the company, TikTok can continue to survive. … the basic ownership structure has to change.”

TikTok had their own comment on the legislation:

“This legislation has a predetermined outcome: a total ban of TikTok in the United States,” ByteDance wrote in a post on X. “The government is attempting to strip 170 million Americans of their Constitutional right to free expression. This will damage millions of businesses, deny artists an audience, and destroy the livelihoods of countless creators across the country.”
