Brookland, AR- Citizens of Brookland understand the pain it can be to get on to Highway 49, at times, but a donation of land could help alleviate that pain.
Bobby Couch is donating land to connect W. Mathews Street to Highway 49 meaning the road would connect to both [Hwy. 49 and Hwy. 49B] highways in the City of Brookland.
Mayor Jones discussed in a recent city council meeting that they had already made sure they would have enough land to put drainage in. As the mayor said “I think you’re going to get more out of this in drainage than you realize.”
Long-time Brookland City Council Member, Wilson Shipman asked both of Brookland Public Schools Superintendents, who were in attendance how will this help the school. Brett Bunch replied saying that any relief will help.
You will only be able to turn right when the road is complete, to help limit crashes.
The mayor also says they had a contractor helping doing the work but thinks they are backing out, due to cost. Which leaves Couch to cut down the trees, and the city for the rest.
Before all of that the city will need to check if the gas lines were dug deep enough to continue this project.
The project does not yet have a date set to be done.
This story will be updated when more information becomes available in to this project.
