BROOKLAND, AR — (BrooklandNews.com) — Dec. 20, 2025 — Council members of the City of Brookland will receive a raise in the new year.

During the December 9, 2025, council meeting, David Gambill, Jason Cooper, Pamela McGee, Lachelle Sipes, Candice Bishop and Wilson Shipman were all present and voted in favor of an ordinance that would raise council members’ salaries.

According to ordinance 2025-22, the salary would increase to $450.00. Previously, council members received $400.00 a month after a raise in 2024. Before that, council members were compensated $300.00 per meeting (monthly) after an ordinance was passed to raise their salaries for 2021.

City council members in Brookland have only been compensated since late 2016, when an ordinance was passed making their salaries $150.00.

The raise for council members comes after Mayor Kenneth Jones of Brookland recently received a salary increase in 2024 from around $50,000 to $75,000, and $400 for each city council meeting.
