BENTONVILLE, AR — (BrooklandNews.com) — Nov. 14, 2025 — Walmart CEO Doug McMillon announced Friday that he will step down in January.

McMillon, who led Walmart’s transformation over the past decade, will retire but remain on the Board until June and serve as an advisor to Furner through FY2027. Furner, who has been with Walmart for over 30 years, will continue to focus on innovation and associate development.

A press release from Walmart states that John Furner will succeed Doug McMillon as President and CEO, effective February 1, 2026.

“John Furner is the right leader to guide Walmart into our next chapter of growth and transformation,” said Greg Penner, Chairman of Walmart Inc. “After starting as an hourly associate and being with us for over 30 years in a variety of leadership roles across all three of our operating segments.”

McMillon has served as Walmart’s chief executive officer (CEO) since 2014.
