WASHINGTON  — (BrooklandNews.com) — Nov. 6, 2025 — Nancy Pelosi announced Thursday that she will not seek re-election.

In a video posted to her social media, she expressed gratitude for her time representing San Francisco and emphasized the importance of continued participation in democracy. Pelosi, the first female Speaker of the House, played a significant role in shaping the Democratic Party and fighting against former President Trump.

“I have truly loved serving as your voice in Congress, and I have always honored the song of St. Francis, ‘Lord make an instrument of thy peace,’ the anthem of our city. That is why I want you, my fellow San Franciscans, to be the first to know. I will not be seeking reelection to Congress,” Pelosi, 85, said.

Pelosi has been representing San Francisco for 38 years.

She made history as the first female Speaker of the House in 2007. A powerful figure in the Democratic Party, she played a key role in passing significant legislation, including the Affordable Care Act, and led the House through historic impeachment proceedings against President Trump. Despite stepping back from leadership, Pelosi remained influential, advocating for progressive causes and shaping the Democratic Party’s direction.

Her seat will be up for grabs in the 2026 midterms.
