JONESBORO, AR — (BrooklandNews.com) — May 16, 2025 — Walmart CEO Doug McMillon warned consumers on Thursday of rising prices because of tariffs.
On Thursday, in a call reporting on Walmart’s first quarter earnings, McMillon said, “The higher tariffs will result in higher prices.”
Trump imposed tariffs on almost every country in early April and raised China’s tariff to 145%, despite China having reached a 90-day pause agreement.
“We can control what we can control,” McMillon added on the call, while in another conference, he suggested he was “disappointed” at where food inflation currently stands.
In April 2025, food prices in the United States were 2.8% higher than the previous year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This includes both groceries for your home and food purchased at restaurants. Specifically, grocery prices were up 2.0% year-over-year, while restaurant prices increased 3.9%.
