Brookland, AR (BrooklandNews.com) – Mar. 28, 2025 – Craighead County remains under a burn ban as multiple structure fires continue to be reported.
The burn ban was implemented in early March by Craighead County Judge Marvin Day after Craighead County was deemed under an extreme risk for wildfires, which has since been downgraded to a high risk.
During the week of March 16-22, the Brookland Fire Department (BFD) reported six structure fires. According to a Facebook post from the department, many of the fires started small but quickly grew in size, posing a significant threat to nearby structures.
Burn bans are issued by county judges in response to heightened fire risks, and they prohibit all outdoor burning. Violating the ban can result in fines ranging from $100 to $1,000 and up to 30 days in jail.
