Little Rock, AR – (BrooklandNews.com) – Feb. 22, 2025 – Two education bills were signed into law by Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee-Sanders, likely to change how education works in the 25-26 school year.
Those bills signed into law include a bell-to-bell cellphone ban and a free breakfast for Arkansas public school students. The governor announced both initiatives during the State of the State address.
“”Education is all about making sure every student has opportunity, and free school breakfast and phone free schools make Arkansas even better for Arkansas students,” Governor Sarah Huckabee-Sanders said.
Senate Bill 59 which would provide free breakfast for all Arkansas public school students passed the state Senate with 24 yes votes. It passed the House with 88 yes votes. The governor said it would assist parents “who would otherwise have a difficult time” providing breakfast for their children.
Senate Bill 142 would require Arkansas schools to adopt policies making school cellphones free bell-to-bell. The bill asks schools to amend the policy for fires, tornadoes, shooters, and several other exceptions.
The governor said the signing of the bills’ was “just the beginning of my family-friendly legislation this session.”
