Washington — Republicans across Capitol Hill claim they have a new plan that could avoid a government shutdown following an outrage from republicans on what was included in the original 1,600 page funding bill.
The new bill, streamlined to 116 pages, would fund the government until January 30th, 2027 and includes a number of key provisions.
The continuing resolution (CR) includes disaster relief funding for Hurricanes Milton and Helene, while also an extension of the current farm bill.
Democrats have already begun to share their skepticism, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, the current House Minority Leader told democrats behind closed doors, “I’m not simply a no, I’m a hell no.”
Democratic Representative Jamie Raskin said, “It’s just horrific that they have thrust us into this kind of chaos already, and they haven’t even taken over.”
Following the closed-door meeting from democrats, they are said to all vote against the new funding bill. While it can pass the republican lead House of Representatives, the bill passing in the Senate, which is lead by democrats looms.
The new bill is endorsed by President- Elect Donald Trump, but intra-party disagreements could cause the bill to fail as representatives like Rep. Chip Roy are still planning to vote no and he doesn’t want to raise the debt ceiling.
