Brookland, AR- Here in Arkansas it can be hard to keep your mailbox looking presentable, that’s why the United States Postal Service is asking you to improve the appearance of your mailbox.

Mailbox improvement week was held from May 21-27, 2023. While that’s over it’s important to still keep your mailbox from becoming disheveled.

Repairing suburban and rural mailboxes improves the
appearance of the community and makes delivering and receiving mail safer for carriers and
customers.

USPS asks you to repair your mailbox because of the wear and tear that occurs to mailboxes every year. This is especially important after the effects of last winter.

What you can do:

  • Replacing loose hinges on a mailbox door
  • Repainting a mailbox that may have rusted or has started to peel
  • Remounting a loosened mailbox post
  • Replacing or adding house numbers

A Customer Relations Coordinator at USPS says “The best thing customers can do is make sure their mailbox is properly  placed and sturdy, not blocked by anything, working properly (lid), and void of any pests (bugs, wasps, snakes).”

If a homeowner plans to install a new mailbox or replace a worn one, they must use only Postal Service–approved traditional, contemporary or locking full/limited service mailboxes. When placing a custom made mailbox, you’re asked to consult with your local postal office.
